The Fiat Strada or Ram 700.

Kinja'd!!!

Could it work as a Ram 50 or as a Jeep Comanche (I threw up just thinking about that). It fits the Lifestyle vehicle niche that milenials are seeking, its versatile, and would have no competition for its segment. Could it work in America?

Probably not.

I mean, I’d love one. But small-car based trucks have never done well here. I’m not counting the El Camino because it wasn’t exactly based on a small car.

I’d buy it as a Jeep. I could see it as a Renegade-X or something.

It would... With the “can’t have it” syndrome, you could sell anything to some people...

I think it would sell. Maybe half as many as Jeep Renegades they sell.

These are FWD right? I don think they’ll sell many. Maybe they will do okay on fleet sales. I think they’d be great for like a auto parts store.

The Jeep Comanche thing already exists. The Toro is basically a Renegade underneath.

I don’t think the Strada would sell well in the US, you guys like big, comfy powerful-ish things for most laborious purposes (in a most unnecessary manner sometimes).

Millennials like either techy new things or older idol cars. This stands in-between those two as a new old car, with old old tech and no appeal other than being a bit weird.

Kinja'd!!!

Also, it would most likely not pass on any safety test.

I think if it’s a solid enough product it might.

Call it the Dodge Rampage, and it would sell about as well as the original Dodge Rampage.

It won’t sell in the USA because after the chicken tax is applied, it will cost as much or more than a full size pickup... but with less capability, space and performance.

And most Americans like there stuff big.

So no, I don’t think it will sell in high enough numbers for it to be brought into the US.

The most realistic way these will make it into the US it being imported by individuals after it’s 25 years old.

No, it would not do well here. It’s too small, too slow and not manly enough.

Make that one look like a Renegade and it would sell. A lot. At least 50,000 units a year

The Ram 700 is the right sized vehicle for me for the truck things I would need it for.

But, since this is built by FCA I’m not sure I’d buy one. I just can’t say I trust the thing not to fall apart

I actually got to check out a Ram 700, at a truck stop, in Oklahoma, last year. A nice, native-American, couple let me drool all over theirs. They even let me take it for a little spin around the parking lot.

Anyway, it’s acually the same frame as the current Jeep Grand Cherokee. It gets about 24 combined mpg (street/hwy) and has a slightly greater payload than the aforementioned Jeep Grand Cherokee. It’s fun to drive, and very nimble (like a Subaru Outback) for it’s size. The interior isn’t fancy at all, although there IS a $1,200 option to add steering-wheel mounted audio and Bluetooth controls. The back seat wouldn’t be much for anyone over 5'0" and/or 150lbs, but for short trips, it’d be bearable. The suicide door on the driver’s side opens surprisingly wide. The bed can carry MUCH MORE weight than volume. The owners had 10 60lb bags of Quickrete in it, and the car/truck didn’t seem to notice (and my old ‘99 Dodge Dakota 4x4 WOULD have).

They told me they paid just over $13k, in Mexico, for it...and another $5k in fees to import it. They DID emphasize that, being Native American, and living on a reservation, they were able to get around the EPA issues somehow, so I don’t know if just anyone could get one imported.

I DO know that I’d KILL to get one of these little beasts, ESPECIALLY since even light trucks these days cost almost 3x what these critters are going for. I guess that just goes to show how much Uncle Sam, and the Auto Unions, love to bend over the American consumer.
